Col Newcombe

THE NEWCOMBE MEDAL

In July 2017, we lost a wonderful Seagulls Legend, Col Newcombe, from Ascot Vale Sports and Trophies, was an amazing supporter of Williamstown Seagulls FIDA Football Club.

Perhaps better known to fans of the Coodabeen Champions as “Col from Colac”, Col loved all sports, and our fondest memories are of his enthusiasm – he loved a chat about anything and everything to do with sport.

Col was a great friend to Williamstown Seagulls FIDA Football Club, where he was our much-loved Umpire, Committee Member, Advocate, Mentor, Sponsor, Photographer, Wise Counsel and Good Friend.

Apart from arranging all the club medals and trophies, and Grand Final Cups and medals for so many years, Col also organised the “Footies for FIDA” campaign which resulted in our club receiving a dozen Sherrins for match and training use.

Col was also the genius who designed our famous and popular hoodie design, which we now call the “Col Newcombe Hoodie”.

In addition, Col had a passion for photography – not only sport, but also nature. We are very privileged to have many of Col’s best footy photos on our Facebook page, and we are also proud that we have copies of some of Col’s finest landscapes of local areas.
